Kara is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotions and went on to receive a Master's Degree in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in Play Therapy.
Kara adopts an empowering, non-judgmental approach to healing and change that actively engages her clients' strengths. She believes past events can shape beliefs, self-perceptions, and behaviors, affecting current relationships and the ability to cope with past and present challenges. Each client is unique, and despite similarities, the life experiences of the individual are distinct. She believes in the ability to discover the answers to the concerns and problems raised by her clients and that, while the difficult situations of the past cannot be changed, by working together, we can better understand and resolve the challenges now faced. Long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions will be uncovered so that you may experience more fulfilling relationships and happiness in your life.
To cultivate a pathway for growth and healing, Kara offers a compassionate and supportive environment. Kara specializes in grief and trauma, domestic violence, abuse, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, family struggles, and life transitions. She is also trained in EMDR levels I and II and attends advanced training to stay on top of current trends in therapy. During an EMDR session, both hemispheres of the brain are activated, which allows the brain to naturally process traumas (i.e., car accidents, surgeries, complicated grief, stuck points). It is also beneficial for working with anxiety and depression and helping you achieve your goals.
She enjoys working with children, teens, and adults. In addition to seeing adolescents in the therapeutic setting, Kara often collaborates with schools, health providers and agencies in order to support the most successful outcome.
Kara is a member in good standing with the American Counseling Association, the Idaho Counseling Association, and the Idaho Play Therapy Association.
